Straddling the border between the autonomous community of Cantabria and the province of Burgos (Castile and León), it is not just a feat of hydraulic engineering, but a true “inland sea” nestled among the mountains.

🏗️ History and Figures
Officially inaugurated in 1952 after decades of construction, the reservoir was created to regulate the flow of the Ebro River and ensure irrigation for the Ebro Valley and the Rioja region.
- Surface Area: Approximately 6,250 hectares, making it one of the largest reservoirs in Spain.
- Capacity: It can hold up to 541 cubic hectometers of water.
