The aim of the WBA Award is to promote radio activity through the activation of references of Italian and Sardinian historical, natural, and touristic significance. These include Lighthouses, Minor Islands, Castles, Nuraghi, Domus de Janas, Giants’ Tombs, Menhirs, Dolmens, Temples, Sacred Wells, Country Churches, Neolithic Sardinian Settlements, Coastal Towers, Parks, Beaches, and other World Beauties (WBA).
The “WBA AWARD SITES” Map, built on the Google Maps platform and accessible at https://sbota.org/map-and-list-of-sites/, serves as a vital tool for both Activators and Hunters. This resource allows Activators to precisely locate, identify, and categorize WBA references. Each labeled position on the map is marked with a distinct icon, the color of which indicates its current status:
- Gray: Waiting for activation
- Yellow: Scheduled activation
- Red: Currently in activation
- Green: Activation completed
- Light Green: Activation completed in previous years
Clicking on a completed activation icon will open a window displaying the reference code and name as its title. Within this window, comprehensive activation statistics and a descriptive overview, including links to dedicated websites, are provided.
Furthermore, the legend conveniently categorizes references, significantly simplifying the search process.
In conclusion, this user-friendly, effective, and freely accessible map represents an invaluable database of past and future WBA activities. We encourage you to make full use of it.

Attention hunters! WBA is dedicated to your comfort and success. Whether you’re on vacation in another division (e.g., 76/1XX123) or operating portable (1XX123/P), you can fully participate in WBA without forfeiting any points earned with your primary callsign, 1XX123. Our system intelligently handles the rest, crediting your base callsign for the ranking while showing your operating callsign in the activation log.

In 2024 (SBA) and 2025 (SIBA) Alex, Gaetano, Carmelo, Sergio ad Darek activated 155 references across various sites in Sardinia and Italy, extending participation as activators to all current and future DA-RC members from all over the world!
Any activation of the Sites will be possibly reported at least 24 hours before the activity.
This Award is managed by WBA TEAM.

The goal of WBA hunters is to contact the maximum number of activated WBs annually and earn one or more E-DIPLOMAS over the years. Progressively, hunters can also build a distinguished collection of hundreds of unique sites with confirmed links, gathered as valuable references through logging contacts with various activations. Furthermore, they aim to collect references to the geographical Regions, Provinces, and Municipalities where WB’s sites are located (e.g., the 377 municipalities in Sardinia).
An official Hunters ranking updated in real time is available on the Page www.sbota.org/Hunters Scores
Each activation will be given a score between 1 and 5 based on this
Guidelines for assigning points:
5 pts MINOR ISLANDS;
4 pts Sites with FIELD ACTIVATION;
3 pts Archaeological sites, Castles;
2 pts Pota, Coastal Towers, Lighthouses;
1 pts Country Churches, Municipalities and others various.
An Activators Ranking is available on the Page https://sbota.org/activators/
A further novelty introduced by the WBA is the establishment of an Activators Ranking.
Guidelines for assigning scores for each WBA activation:
5 pts MINOR ISLANDS IOTA and IWI only reachable y Boat or Ferry;
3 pts Activations performed within private sites that require Authorizations;
2 pts Activations carried out on a Field setup;
2 pts Activations POTA, SOTA, COTA, LOTA;
1 pts Basic Activations;
Obviously, if the activation includes one or more features, it will obtain the TOTAL number of Points due. For example, an IWI Activation (5 Points) on a private island reachable by boat, which requires authorization for access (3 Points) and carried out with a camp setup (2 Points) will be worth a total of 5 + 3 + 2 = 10 Points.
C.R.A. | Commemorative Radio Activation
Bringing History and Tradition into WBA
A C.R.A. (Commemorative Radio Activation) is a special event that a WBA activator can perform from their home Base Station (1 Point Basic Activation). It is designed to celebrate significant milestones, cultural traditions, and the public heritage of one’s country or geographic region. Whether it is honoring a Patron Saint, celebrating a national holiday, or remembering a historic anniversary, the C.R.A. brings local events to the global attention of the WBA Hunters!

C.R.A. is the latest WBA breakthrough for 2026!
C.R.A. is the new WBA highlight for 2026!
Why activate a C.R.A. within WBA?
- Cultural Preservation: We use the 11-meter band to tell the story of your patron saint festivals, city anniversaries, and public celebrations.
- Global Reach: A local celebration is instantly transformed into an international event, connecting your community with radio operators all over the world.
- Exclusive Recognition: Hunters will be awarded special digital certificates, creating a tangible historical record of the anniversary.
Focus Areas
| Category | Examples |
| Patron Saint Festivals | Religious traditions and local “Festa” celebrations. |
| Public Holidays | National days, liberation anniversaries, or cultural jubilees. |
| Historical Anniversaries | Commemorating the founding of cities, institutions, or landmarks. |
Our Mission: To ensure that important dates are not just remembered locally, but broadcast globally through the skill and passion of the 11-meter band community.
For our activities, we will typically employ high-performance portable antennas, such as the 3-element BIRD YAGI, DELTA LOOP (single element), and BAMBY. When portable antenna deployment is unfeasible due to adverse weather or restrictive locations, we will utilize top-tier mobile antennas (e.g., the SIRIO TWIN LOG 5 vertical antenna with a magnetic base). Recognizing the increased difficulty in achieving QSOs under such circumstances, 1 point will be awarded.
WBA Activators will automatically have the score of the reference they activated and approved in the hunters ranking credited to their Callsign.

All Sites can be activated maximum Three times during the year and up to a maximum of three consecutive days. Activations can be rescheduled if a minimum of 30 QSOs is not reached in the first session.
Each WB site will be classified with a specific alphanumeric reference in a specific list which is constantly updated in the specific WBA Map and Sites Activations section.
QSO METHOD:
ONLY QSOs are accepted in VOICE SSB mode, Two-Way mode.
We will only use frequencies above .600 and below .500 Khz respecting the DX zone.
Avoid the use of SDR for listening and calls with the help of other operators with recorded or live calls via telephone, under penalty of CANCELLATION of the QSO.
The use of Remote stations is permitted but only by the operator who owns the station itself.
No exchange of progressive numbers is foreseen.
The In The Log or Log principle will be applied. It will be the responsibility of the activator to correctly record the QSOs by noting the date, UTC time, frequency, mode and RS.
With WBA LIVE LOGS you can experience WBA activations live with the activator to understand the propagation trend and verify if you have completed the QSO correctly!
Remember that the activator will insert the QSO ONLY and EXCLUSIVELY when the TWO WAY QSO is completed!
No WBA activity during the World Wide Contest (CQ11WW).
A MESSENGER and WHATSAPP group are created, where WBA Hunters will be able to receive ONLY information on activations and above all they will be able to receive in REAL TIME the GPS position of the activator and photos of the portable station to give real proof of its presence on the declared site. This is a fundamental innovation in an award, that is, we will ALL be an active part of the WBA Team together, with the activator sharing all the elements necessary to make the activation itself credible and truthful, in full honesty and correctness.
The activations will be published in chronological order in the appropriate “Activations” section. After their conclusion, the Log will be published just below the description. If the hunter, after the publication of the Logs, finds that the QSO has not been recorded, he can report it to the activator via e-mail to is0jhn.165@gmail.com.
The activation station must be positioned, where possible, within a 500-meter radius of the site’s boundaries. In exceptional and duly justified cases, a maximum distance of 750 meters is permitted, subject to WBA TEAM approval. Activators are required to verify the location in advance through site visits or digital tools such as Google Earth.
A site located on a cliff, an island, it will have to be physically activated from this place and not from the earth stops (even if the distance is less than 500 meters).
THE WBA TEAM.
