🚙 THE PANDA 4X4 CONQUERS THE GENNA CARRU WASHING PLANT: HIGH-ALTITUDE PANORAMAS AND INTERCONTINENTAL DX

The radio-trekking adventure along the Santa Barbara Mining Trail (CMSB) experienced a new, fascinating chapter today, September 17, 2026, with the twelfth stage (165DA/CMSB12), operated from the heart of the historic Genna Carru washing plant.

☀️ Ideal Conditions and Full Efficiency of the Panda 4×4

The day welcomed Alex 165DA101 and trusty Giacomino with optimal weather conditions: partly cloudy skies and a decidedly pleasant temperature, ideal for outdoor activities. The steep and rugged stretches of road leading to the mining area posed no problem: the trusty white Fiat Panda 169 4×4 performed impeccably, climbing safely and precisely over the rocks and uneven terrain along the route.

The location chosen for setting up the station was at an altitude of about 600 meters, in a spot reminiscent of a true mountain pass. The setting proved extremely panoramic, although not completely open 360 degrees due to the presence of nearby mountain ridges limiting the horizontal view.

📡 Unstable Propagation but Intercontinental DX Gems

From a radio-electric standpoint, the session presented weak and rather unstable propagation toward Europe. Despite the propagation difficulties across the European continent, the station managed to achieve a decent and satisfying score of 46 QSOs, reaching well beyond European borders and contacting 4 distinct continents!

For the twelfth stage, scheduled for Thursday, September 17, 2026, operator Alex 165DA101, accompanied by his trusty plush companion Giacomino and aboard the inseparable white Fiat Panda 169 4×4, will venture into one of the most evocative industrial archaeology settings in southwestern Sardinia.

🗺️ The Route: From Arenas to Su Mannau Between History and Nature

Inspired by the official trail connecting the Arenas area to the natural and karstic complex of Su Mannau, this stage crosses a territory of extraordinary historical and environmental value. The path winds through majestic evidence of ancient extraction plants, mountain landscapes sculpted by time, and the proximity of unique wonders such as the famous caves and the perennial spring of Pubusinu.

For this portable activation, the station will position itself in an exceptional location: right in the heart of the historic Genna Carru washing plant, precisely at coordinates 39.40406, 8.55514. Thanks to the legendary off-road capabilities of the Panda 169 4×4, the station will reach this magnificent mining archaeological site in total autonomy.
