📈 130 QSOs LOGGED: ON THE PANORAMIC TERRACE OF SAN SIMEONE
The adventure does not stop and keeps moving forward at full speed! For the Ninth Stage of our journey along the Santa Barbara Mining Trail (CMSB), my trusty penguin companion Giacomino and I pushed toward a milestone that lived up to every single expectation. The activation’s title (“Climbing Towards Heaven”) proved to be spot on: driving up a steep dirt road, we reached the summit of the San Simeone hill (in the municipality of Gonnosfanadiga, Cadastral Code E089).
🚜 Dreamy Scenery and Peaceful Elevation
Once we arrived at the top, the view unfolding before us was nothing short of fabulous: a gorgeous, paved, and impeccably maintained terrace that serves as the arrival point of the magnificent scenic staircase.
We were positioned at an altitude of about 300 meters, and although the view was partially limited by towering nearby mountains, the sense of peace was absolute. The morning passed in total tranquility, disturbed (in a very pleasant way!) only by the passing of just three people throughout the entire operation. With our reliable white Panda 169 4×4 and Skypper antenna set up right on the terrace, we were ready to challenge the ether! 🚗📡🗿
📡 Propagation Analysis and Log Summary (130 QSOs)
From a radio-electric standpoint, the morning delivered very unstable and capricious propagation, characterized for the vast majority of the session by classic European short-skip. Openings and signals shifted abruptly, requiring constant attention to the VFO.
Despite the difficulties and hurdles of non-linear propagation, our determination amply paid off: the only, yet extremely precious, extra-European contacts reached all the way to Thailand (153 division)!
At the end of the day, looking at the log and counting a solid 130 QSOs was an exceptional achievement. It is a remarkable result that continues to demonstrate, stage after stage, the immense affection, esteem, and support that the WBA hunter community holds for this fantastic award. 🏅🌍
🏁 CONCLUSION AND GREETINGS
That’s all from the terrace of San Simeone! The ninth stage is successfully archived with an excellent haul, breathtaking views, and confirmation that combining the exploration of Sardinian territory with portable radio is a winning formula.

The radio-trekking adventure along the Santa Barbara Mining Trail (CMSB) does not stop, pushing forward with great strides towards new and fascinating landscapes in Sardinia. Leaving the San Cosimo area behind, my trusty penguin companion Giacomino and I are ready to fire up our rigs for Stage 09, scheduled for September 3nd, 2026, at 07.00 UTC.
For this unmissable portable session, our trusty white Panda 169 4×4 will lead us to a location of profound devotion and extraordinary visual impact: we will position ourselves in the immediate vicinity of the historic Staircase of San Simeone, in the municipal territory of Gonnosfanadiga (Cadastral Code: E089; reference geographical coordinates: 39.50616, 8.61816).
🗺️ The Route and the Spiritual Setting
The official ninth stage of the trail, which winds along the variant from Gonnosfanadiga to Villacidro, offers hikers and pilgrims a route rich in evocative sights, blending the wild beauty of the territory with monuments of popular faith. The famous Staircase of San Simeone, which leads to the small rural church of the same name perched on the heights, represents one of the most iconic landmarks of the surrounding landscape.
Activating reference 165DA/CMSB09 from this splendid panoramic viewpoint means uniting the charm of local tradition with the magic of radio waves, bringing 11-meter frequencies to the summit of a path defined by great spirituality and untouched nature.
