📝 Activity Summary

The activation day for Sylvester started a bit earlier than scheduled. Thanks to a great preliminary agreement with his family, Sylvester managed to gain precious time by heading out into the field as early as 07:00 local time.

The operating position was set up in a parking lot right near the marina on Wolin Island, a stunning location featuring breathtaking views and neighboring islands. For the operation, a quick and portable setup was used: the transceiver connected directly to the car battery (approx. 100-120W) with the Skyper antenna deployed on-site. ⚡🚗

📻 Technical and Operational Notes

• Weather Conditions: The session benefited from a beautiful sunny day, although disrupted by very strong winds that occasionally caused the antenna to rotate, creating temporary disturbances during contacts. ☀️🌬️
• Setup & Power: Despite some initial limitations regarding the SWR performance of the Skyper antenna (which required limiting power to about 100-120W), the signal proved more than sufficient to rack up a high number of contacts. 🔋📶
• Propagation & QSOs: The day was extremely fruitful with well over 100 QSOs logged, including about 19 different DXCC entities. Notable morning contacts included a great signal and opening with Lars, alongside various European correspondents. 🌐
• Pile-up Management: Despite the usual lack of discipline from some stations in the pile-ups who tended to make overly long transmissions, the session overall went smoothly with great general satisfaction. 🎧📉

The activation of Wolin Island (161DA/Z002) turned out to be a true success, confirming the importance and beauty of these Baltic territories within the World Beauties Award program. Despite the strong winds and minor technical challenges related to propagation, Sylvester managed to bring home an extraordinary haul of contacts, bringing smiles to many DX hunters. 🏆

Wolin Island is a magnificent Baltic masterpiece located in northwestern Poland within the West Pomeranian region. Celebrated for its dramatic coastal cliffs, sweeping beech forests, and peaceful lagoons protected largely by the Wolin National Park, it offers an unmatched natural backdrop for radio operations.

Historically, Wolin echoes with the legendary tales of the Early Middle Ages, famously known as the site of the medieval trading emporium of Jomsborg or Vineta. Operating from this rich soil means transmitting across centuries of maritime history, ancient Viking heritage, and untamed nature!
