The 30 Delta Alfa Dream Team has successfully completed the activation of Portet de Sollana. We shifted our operation from the forest terrain to the coast, choosing a recreational area surrounded by the waters of the Albufera. With the rice fields in their growth phase, the setting provided the perfect backdrop for a great day of radio operations. 🌊🌾

The Story of the Day (by Pepe 30DA201) 📝

“The meeting point was set for 08:30 local time in Sollana. From there, we headed towards our destination. We were lucky enough to find an iron beam protruding from the water on the small pier’s walkway: it was the perfect spot for the antenna, so we didn’t even need guy wires this time.” 🏗️📻

“The morning started very well regarding Europe, with several contacts from the Canary Islands in the early hours. Unfortunately, the propagation towards Asia and Oceania remained closed. Our friend Lars had some initial difficulties making contact with us, but he finally succeeded. We logged some interesting stations, including the 40 Division (Liechtenstein), 143 (Saint Lucia), and 196 (Guadeloupe).” 🌍🛰️

“The weather was kind to us: a mix of clouds and sunshine, with a light breeze that kept us cool. Despite propagation not being at its peak, we spent some truly enjoyable hours on the air, also receiving visits from fellow radio friends. At 17:11 UTC, we made our last QSO and began packing up the portable station.” ⛅🤝

The Venue

Located in the heart of the Albufera region, Portet de Sollana is a gem of natural beauty. This site is a crucial part of the Albufera Natural Park, one of the most important wetland areas in Spain. Historically, this area has been the soul of local agriculture and traditional fishing, serving as a sanctuary for migratory birds and maintaining a delicate ecological balance that has defined the landscape for centuries. 🌿🌊

The Setup

To ensure optimal performance, our team—Sergio (30DA010), Pepe (30DA201), and Javi (30DA202)—will be deploying a high-performance mono-element Delta loop antenna. This specialized setup will allow us to push our signal further and reach across the globe, ensuring we catch as many of you as possible on the USB frequency.
