We have officially concluded the activation of the Molinos de Alcublas (30DA/HV05). Despite propagation conditions that truly tested our skills, we managed to collect 244 contacts, 28 countries, and 5 continents! 🌍✨
Operating from inside these 17th-century historical structures was an unparalleled experience: a look into the past through the radio technology of today. A special thanks to the fellow operators who came to visit us, and kudos to the team for quickly handling the emergency fire situation spotted during the activity.

2. Technical Field Notes:
- Antenna Setup: The mono-element Delta Loop was deployed using an existing iron structure on-site. Precision was required to isolate the antenna from the steel cables supporting the windmill blades, which posed a potential risk of electromagnetic interference. A secondary coaxial cable run was successfully deployed to optimize signal flow.
- Special Access: Operation was conducted from inside the windmill, featuring massive 1.5m thick walls that provided natural climate control, ensuring optimal comfort for the team.
- Connectivity: Initial log synchronization issues due to poor mobile coverage were resolved by positioning the mobile device at a high-altitude window, establishing a stable Wi-Fi hotspot for the duration of the activation.
3. Operator Commentary (30DA201 Pepe): “The day began at 08:30 local time in Alcublas. Despite challenging propagation conditions—particularly regarding intercontinental signals—the team managed to secure 244 QSOs across 28 countries and 5 continents. Highlights included contact with 153DA102 Lars and a lucky sporadic-E opening with the 49 Division. Beyond the radio, we were privileged to explore the fascinating historical engineering of these 17th-century windmills. We also fulfilled our civic duty by spotting and reporting two small fires to 112, which were swiftly contained by forest observers and aerial units. A challenging but highly rewarding day.”
