The most thrilling radio-trekking journey of the year marches on! Following last stage’s jaw-dropping, absolute record-breaking performance among the desert dunes, the CMSB 11m On The Trail Challenge moves into the historic beating heart of the Sardinian mining epic. We are ready to activate Stage 06 of the Santa Barbara Mining Trail, featuring the brand-new reference 165DA/CMSB06! 🎒

On Sunday, June 28, 2026, operator 165DA101 Alex and his inseparable plush penguin mascot Giacomino will drive their legendary white Fiat Panda 169 4×4 onto a magnificent historical terrace, ready to transmit the archeological charm of this industrial heritage into the global ether.

📍 THE CONTEXT: From Pitzinurri to Montevecchio, the Path of the Miners

Stage 06 (Alternative Route “Bis”) of the trail represents a true deep-dive into Sardinia’s industrial past. The route kicks off from the picturesque hamlet of Pitzinurri (Ingurtosu) and winds along old mining footpaths and historic narrow-gauge railways once used to transport heavy ore.

Cutting through dense holm-oak and cork forests that are slowly reclaiming the ancient industrial ruins, the path leads straight to the monumental mining village of Montevecchio—one of Europe’s most significant and imposing symbols of industrial archaeology. A route where the historic grit of the ancient miners blends with the pristine silence of nature.

🎙️ THE LOCATION: Radio Signals from the Pitzinurri Posada! 🏰⛰️

For this sixth field day, Alex and Giacomino will set up their portable station at an exceptional panoramic viewpoint, located right at the starting line of the stage near the historic Posada of Pitzinurri, at the exact coordinates: 39.51523, 8.51515.

Perfect Signal Take-Off: Capitalizing on the elevated position and optimal exposure of this natural ridge, our directional Skypper antenna will have a clear line of sight to bypass surrounding hills, firing strong signals toward Europe and beyond.
The Panda Shack Ready for Action: Our nimble white Panda 4×4 will act as the operational core of the site, while Giacomino is already on the dashboard waiting for the first calls. Coming off the massive 434 QSO milestone of the previous stage, the crew is highly motivated to handle the heavy Sunday pile-up! 🚗💨🐧
