The CMSB 11m On The Trail Challenge marches steadily into Stage 05 of the Santa Barbara Mining Trail. Leaving the cliffs of Buggerru behind, we are ready to cross a true sand desert overlooking the Mediterranean Sea: welcome to official reference 165DA/CMSB05! 🎒

On Monday, June 22, 2026, operator 165DA101 Alex and his trusty penguin mascot Giacomino will push their reliable white Fiat Panda 169 4×4 beyond conventional limits, deploying the station inside a high-value protected natural reserve.

📍 THE CONTEXT: From Portixeddu to Piscinas, the Mistral Sanctuary

Stage 05 of the trail is one of the longest, most demanding, and mesmerizing segments of the entire journey. The path winds between the mouth of the Rio Mannu in Portixeddu and the legendary golden desert of Piscinas, crossing an immense sand dune system that ranks among the highest in Europe.

The trail cuts through dense Mediterranean scrub, overlooks the spectacular and solitary beach of Scivu, and follows old mining tracks and abandoned railways once used to transport ore down to the sea. A pristine, primordial landscape where nature rules supreme.

• Logistics & Take-Off: Our nimble white Panda 4×4 will act as our windbreak and portable power station. The directional Skypper antenna will be aimed directly over the water from the top of this ridge, taking advantage of a perfect take-off angle to bypass the QRM, maximize European short-skip, and pull in intercontinental DX.
