WBA 30DA/P015 Activation Report – Peñas Pardas
The DA DX Adventure Radio Club team has achieved a memorable milestone! The expedition on June 14, 2026, to the WBA 30DA/P015 reference (Peñas Pardas, Valencia, Spain) concluded with an extraordinary total of 337 QSOs, officially setting a brand-new all-time record for the month of June!
This historic achievement is the direct result of the dedication, synergy, and passion of the operators on the field: Sergio 30DA010, Javi 30DA202, and Pepe 30DA201.
📝 The Logbook Diary: Pepe’s Story (30DA201)
“Our day started very early. I woke up at 6:00 AM to head to our meeting point, which was the activation site itself. Since we were coming from different home locations (QTHs), each of us took a different route. At that time on a Sunday, all the bars were closed, making it impossible for us to grab a coffee together to start the morning.
Despite traveling separately, we were extremely punctual, and by 9:15 AM we had all arrived. We immediately checked the terrain to determine the best spot for the antenna. We chose a fence located about 30 meters from our operating position, which allowed us to gain extra height and a much clearer, unobstructed line of sight. The weather was on our side: it was a beautiful, clear day with a steady light breeze that kept us from suffering under the heavy heat.
We began transmitting around 10:00 AM local time, and the pace was immediately overwhelming—in no time at all, we surpassed our first 100 QSOs! It was incredible; the propagation conditions early in the day were excellent, allowing us to log contacts with Oceania and Asia even before lunch. After our midday break, the radio kept running at full throttle. There were so many stations calling us at the same time, creating a spectacular pile-up. To handle the intense traffic and give everyone’s voice a rest, we took regular turns at the microphone. Propagation remained fantastic throughout almost the entire event, with practically zero background noise (QRM).
In the early afternoon, we noticed a slight dip in propagation, but it quickly recovered back to the peak levels we experienced in the morning. By 18:00 UTC, we had already worked 30 countries and all 6 continents! We decided to extend the activity for one more hour, finally shutting down the gear at 19:00 UTC with a grand total of 337 registered QSOs. Our goals were fully met, and we are extremely satisfied with this achievement.
Before leaving, we made sure to leave the site in better condition than we found it, as respecting the environment is fundamental to us. We cleaned up the entire area around the monument, removing discarded glass fragments that could act as a magnifying glass and trigger a forest fire. Finally, as a floral tribute to beautify the site, we gathered and placed fresh branches of rosemary and thyme on the monument, since the previous offerings left by other visitors were old and dry. - The Lightning-Fast Initial Pile-Up: The log shows a blazing start. Right from the very first minutes after turning on the rig (recorded in the system from 08:01 UTC onwards), the team began stacking up contacts at a frantic pace, averaging up to 3–4 QSOs per minute. Going from zero to over 100 contacts in just a short block of time proves both an excellent frequency selection and the effectiveness of the Delta Loop antenna, strategically positioned for maximum height.
- A True Textbook WAC (Worked All Continents): Working all 6 continents and an impressive 30 different countries from a field station in just 8 to 9 hours of activity is an achievement worthy of a major home station. Looking at the log data, the geographic variety is stunning right from the start: while Europe was massively present, strategic propagation openings allowed the team to successfully log Africa, Asia, Oceania (with contacts reaching all the way to Australia and Indonesia), and the Americas. It was a perfect global footprint that united DX hunters from all over the world via radio.
- Zero QRM and Smooth Operator Flow: As Pepe highlighted, operating with “zero noise” was a game-changer. This allowed the team to easily pick out the weakest, most distant signals from the pile-up, ensuring that operators with modest setups (QRP) could make it into this historic logbook. Furthermore, the strategic rotation of the three operators at the microphone kept everyone sharp, maintaining a steady rhythm and preventing the massive pile-up from collapsing into chaos.
- Deep Human and Civic Value: What makes this activation truly unforgettable isn’t just the cold numbers in the log. Operating in the shadow of the monument dedicated to those who lost their lives in the terrible 1994 fire added a profound emotional weight to the day. The 30DA team’s actions—clearing the area of dangerous glass and replacing dry, weathered offerings with fragrant, wild rosemary and thyme—perfectly embody the highest values of the amateur radio community: using radio as a vehicle for historical memory, respect for nature, and environmental stewardship.

By setting up our field station in the immediate vicinity of the Monumento a los fallecidos en el incendio de Millares de 1994, our team will bridge the gap between amateur radio, natural beauty, and historical memory.
🌲 The Story Behind the Site: On July 4, 1994, a devastating forest fire swept through these very mountains, consuming over 25,000 hectares of pristine woodland. In this exact spot on the Peñas Pardas ridge, a sudden shift in the wind trapped and claimed the lives of seven brave individuals—five forestry brigade workers, a local councilor, and a brave volunteer citizen. They made the ultimate sacrifice while defending their homeland and nature from the flames.
Operating from this specific ridge allows us to honor their memory. While the WBA (World Beauties Award) celebrates the breathtaking, wild beauty of the Muela de Cortes landscapes, our radio signals will also carry a message of respect, remembrance, and gratitude across the globe. The stone monolith standing on this windy peak is a stark reminder of human bravery and the fragile majesty of our planet.
