๐ OFFICIAL PORTABLE ACTIVATION REPORT: 165DA/CMSB03 ๐๏ธ๐
Chapter three is officially in the logbook! ๐ฌ I have truly caught the radio-trekking bug now. I have fully thrown myself into this exciting and brand-new adventure of bringing you portable field activations, carefully selecting the most strategic and scenic spots along the 30 stages of the Cammino Minerario di Santa Barbara. On Sunday, June 7, 2026, the 11-meter frequencies hosted a breathtaking pile-up for official reference 165DA/CMSB03!
๐ง Field Chronicles: Solitude, Cliffs, and Heat on the Plateau ๐๐จ
For this third stage, our field radio station was set up at 121 meters above sea level, finding a spot in a wide open clearing characterized by a jaw-dropping view overlooking the turquoise sea of the Buggerru coast.
To ensure we didn’t cause any inconvenience and left the path completely free for hikers, I parked the trusty white Fiat Panda 169 4×4 on the far left side of the clearing. Throughout the day, the pristine isolation was briefly interrupted only by a few passing pilgrims on foot; for the rest of the time, I enjoyed hours of absolute, refreshing solitude, surrounded solely by the beautiful rustle of the wind caressing the cliffside.
As it turned out to be quite a hot day with an unrelenting sun beating down on the high plateau, the cabin of the Panda transformed once again into my tactical headquarters. I retreated inside to protect myself from the heat, operating comfortably in the shade while our trusty Skypper antenna on the telescopic mast hooked into the ionized clouds!
๐ Log Analysis: The DX Figures & Highlights of the Day ๐๐
The data extracted directly from the log file CMSB3 165DA101 LIVE 1.5 - CMSB03.csv reflects an extraordinary session, with heavy radio traffic and fantastic propagation openings:
- Total Contacts Logged: A whopping 162 valid QSOs locked in over just a few hours! ๐
- European Short-Skip: Absolutely phenomenal. The old continent dominated the airwaves with booming signals, led by a massive turnout from France (14 Division) with 50 stations logged, followed by England (26 Division) with 17 contacts, Spain (30 Division) and Italy (1 Division) with 16 QSOs each, and Germany (13 Division) with 11 hunters on the board. Excellent propagation paths were also opened to the Netherlands, Poland, Scotland, Ireland, Belgium, Austria, Norway, Portugal, Hungary, and Denmark. ๐ช๐บ
- South American & Caribbean Front: Exceptionally strong and stable! The trans-Atlantic path yielded 10 beautiful, steady contacts with Brazil (3 Division), along with two amazing Caribbean contacts with Guadeloupe (196 Division, 196ED101 Jim) and Costa Rica (69 Division, 69RC22 Jose)! ๐ง๐ท๐จ๐ท
- Far East Surprises: While the Canary Islands and Oceania were missing in action during the last stage, this activation blessed us with a stunning, long-path opening toward Southeast Asia! We successfully logged two incredible stations from Indonesia (91 Division): 91AT109 Agus and 91AT777 Hakiem, both punching through the heavy European skip with fantastic signals! ๐ฎ๐ฉ
- The Return of the Canaries: This time around, the Canary Islands (34 Division) made up for their past absence, landing safely in our logbook with 4 stations worked with excellent signal reports! ๐
๐ Conclusion & Radio Amateur Greetings ๐๐ค
Closing out the third stage with 162 contacts proves that this journey along the old mining trail is fast becoming an unmissable event for World Beauties Award (WBA) hunters across the globe. Operating suspended between the rustle of the wind and the mining history of Planu Sartu, with the Panda shielding me from the sun, was an priceless experience.
A massive thank you to all the DXers for their top-notch radio discipline during the heavy pile-up. The full log has already been uploaded and is available for real-time verification:

๐ฅพ 165DA/CMSB03: Beyond the Cliffs! 11 Meters in 4×4 from Planu Sartu to the Grotta Azzurra ๐๐ก
The epic radio-trekking journey along the historic mining paths of Sardinia pushes forward! Following the massive success facing the giant Pan di Zucchero, the CMSB 11m On The Trail Challenge tackles one of the wildest, most rugged, and fascinating coastal sections of the Iglesiente region: official reference 165DA/CMSB03! ๐
For this third chapter, operator 165DA101 Alex and his inseparable plush penguin mascot Giacomino are firing up the engine of their trusty white Fiat Panda 169 4×4, ready to climb the spectacular cliffs overlooking the sea between Masua and Buggerru! ๐๐จ
๐ ACTIVATION DETAILS
- Official Reference: 165DA/CMSB03
- Date: Sunday, June 7, 2026
- Start Time: 10:00 UTC (12:00 CEST local time)
- Band: 11 Meters (SSB)
- Setup: Portable Activation with Panda 169 4×4 tactical support & Skypper Antenna ๐
๐ THE CONTEXT: From Masua to Buggerru
Stage 03 of the Cammino Minerario di Santa Barbara is an intense and breathtaking 9.8 km route. It is one of the wildest segments of the trail, winding along high, jagged cliffs and deep coastal inlets known as “canali” (such as Canal Grande).
The path crosses areas of immense geological and historical value, culminating on the high plateau of Planu Sartu, where the ruins of the old mining village stand. In the early 1900s, this was a fully self-sufficient village hosting hundreds of minersโnow a silent, evocative monument to human labor embedded in overwhelming natural beauty.
๐๏ธ THE PORTABLE DEPLOYMENT: High Over the Sea
For this third field deployment, Alex and Giacomino will set up their portable station in a highly strategic, panoramic location: just a short distance from the historic remains of the Planu Sartu mining village and the promontorio overlooking the stunning Grotta Azzurra (Blue Grotto).
- The Location: A dramatic clifftop overlooking the crystal-clear Mediterranean Sea, offering a jaw-dropping view that stretches into the infinite blue.
- Radio & Off-Road Logistics: The Panda 169 4×4 will climb up to the plateau to serve as our mobile operations base, carrying the heavy battery system with ease. Operating directly from the top of these sheer cliffs will provide the Skypper Antenna with an extraordinary take-off angle over the water, perfect for boosting short-skip European signals and long-path DX! Giacomino will be right on the dashboard, monitoring the S-meter and providing moral support! ๐ง๐
๐ WBA HUNTERS: Keep the Streak Alive!
