In Tenerife, May 1st is not only a celebration of labor but the beginning of a sacred month. While much of the world focuses on industrial work, here the identity is deeply tied to the “Cruz de Mayo” (May Cross): the streets of Santa Cruz are adorned with crosses made of fresh flowers and fruits—a tribute to a land that blooms even from volcanic rock.
