📍 Reference: 165DA/P002 | 🎙️ Operator: Alex 165DA101The World Beauties Award (WBA) activation at Punta Trettu was not just a radio operation, but a total immersion into the wild beauty of the Sulcis region. Here is the account of a day spent between radio waves, nature, and propagation. 📡✨🏝️ The Location: A Heart Surrounded by WaterThe choice of the site was both strategic and scenic: Alex set up the field station exactly in the center of the Porto Trettu peninsula, so as to be almost entirely surrounded by water. This unique position allowed for maximum antenna performance by taking advantage of the sea’s proximity. 🌊Atmosphere: A truly wonderful place, characterized today by a constant breeze with peaks of 10 km/h.Fun Fact: Despite the location’s fame, very few kitesurfers were seen; this sport likely requires a more consistent breeze, but for us, it was the ideal condition to operate in peace! 🪁💨🕒 Operational Strategy and PropagationThe activation kicked off around 12:00 UTC. This choice was dictated by careful observation: lately, propagation has been working much better during the afternoon hours. This decision paid off, allowing us to reach remarkable distances. 📈☀️📊 Log Analysis: A Journey Across Six ContinentsAlthough the number of contacts was modest, the quality of the connections was prestigious. The log recorded 43 contacts, distributed in an incredible way:Globetrotter: All 6 continents were reached. 🗺️Prestigious DX: Noteworthy connections included very special ones such as the Philippines (79), Vietnam (242), Indonesia (91), and the United Arab Emirates (94). 🌏🇦🇪The European Case: A special mention goes to Germany, represented by a single and important contact with Pete (13AT715). There were very few operators from France (14) and no signals at all from the United Kingdom: this indicates that the European backscatter is currently very limited. 🇪🇺🔇🔚 ConclusionPunta Trettu confirms itself as a magical reference for the WBA. Although the log was not numerically explosive, the satisfaction of connecting almost the entire world from this thin strip of land makes every effort worthwhile. - A Crossroads of Time: From the field station, the view spans from the modern sails of kitesurfers to the ancient silhouettes of the Sulcis coastline—a bridge between contemporary sports and thousand-year-old maritime history.
- Natural Harmony: Nestled between a lush pine forest and the lagoon frequented by pink flamingos, our radio waves will travel from one of the most biodiverse and visually stunning “beauties” of the Mediterranean.
