📡 Final Activation Report: WBA 30DA/CH008
Ermita dels Sants de la Pedra – Sueca, Valencia 🇪🇸
The activation on April 18, 2026, will be etched into the history of the World Beauties Award (WBA), not just for the radio contacts made, but for the intense human and logistical experience shared by the team led by Sergio 30DA010.
🍖 The Start and the Logistical Twist
The day began in true fellowship with a traditional breakfast of grilled meats—barbecue style—essential for recharging batteries before ascending the Muntanyeta dels Sants. Once the field station was set up, however, the team faced an unexpected “off-program” event: a meeting with the parish priest of the hermitage.
The site, located within a Natural Park, requires specific permits, and a wedding scheduled for the afternoon forced the team to manage their time strictly. However, Sergio’s courtesy turned a potential problem into an opportunity: the priest granted access to the interior of the Ermita dels Sants de la Pedra, allowing the team to document the martyrs’ altar—protectors of the harvests—with extraordinary photos. 📸⛪
🎙️ Radio Chronicles and DX Highlights
Despite the challenges, propagation offered moments of great satisfaction. Sergio coordinated the operations, involving colleagues Javi (30DA202) and Pepe, encouraging them to overcome their microphone shyness.
- Far East DX: The most thrilling contact was undoubtedly with Lars (242) from Vietnam, an incredible distance that confirmed the effectiveness of the location. 🌏
- European Surprise: An unexpected signal from Division 16 (Sugar Delta) enriched the log, alongside excellent signals from Division 43 and 91.
- The “Special” Contact: Álvaro (30AT107) from Zaragoza, who, despite being 360 km away and received with a 5-1 signal, managed to complete the QSO with perfect modulation. 📻
- Local Solidarity: The powerful signal from David (30DA112), just 20 km away, brought the warmth of the local community to the airwaves.
📊 Log Analysis (Statistical Data)
An analysis of the activation log highlights a fast-paced but extremely effective operation:
- Traffic Volume: Approximately 55 confirmed contacts in the log.
- Geographical Coverage: 16 countries contacted. 🚩
- Almost a Record: Sergio came agonizingly close to a “Grand Slam” of continents, missing Central America by just one contact to secure all 6 continents in a single session.
- Efficiency: Despite the need to dismantle by 4:00 PM to avoid interfering with religious celebrations and to comply with SEPRONA environmental regulations, the average contacts per hour remained excellent.
🔚 Conclusions
This activation was a lesson in Ethical Radio Operating: respect for historical heritage, observance of environmental rules, and team spirit. Sergio 30DA010 and his team proved that a passion for radio can coexist with the protection of the world’s most beautiful sites, carrying the name of the Ermita dels Sants de la Pedra into the homes of operators thousands of miles away.
The team is already working on next week’s plan, aiming to activate the port of Sollana—this time with all the necessary permits in hand! 📜✅

🌾 A Station Between Sky and Rice Fields
Sergio will set up a field station in the immediate vicinity of the legendary Ermita dels Sants de la Pedra. This isn’t just a technical challenge; it’s a tribute to a site that has watched over the Spanish landscape since the 14th century.
Rising from the “Muntanyeta dels Sants,” the Hermitage stands as a lonely sentinel amidst the vast, emerald-green rice paddies of the Albufera Natural Park. Our antennas will stretch toward the sky from the only elevated point in this flat, watery horizon, bridging the gap between ancient tradition and modern radio communication.
⛪ The Soul of the Site: History & Protection
By activating this specific reference, the WBA honors the rich heritage of the Saints Abdon and Sennen. Known as the “Saints of the Stone,” they have been the celestial guardians of farmers for centuries, protecting the precious harvests from the “stone” (hail).
Why this activation is unique:
- Symbolic Connection: Just as the Hermitage served as a beacon for the community, our signal will radiate from this historic “island” in a sea of rice. 🛰️
- Cultural Fusion: We are operating from a site that houses the Rice Museum, celebrating the very essence of Valencian life and labor. 🍚
- Breathtaking Scenery: The 360-degree views from the site provide a mystical backdrop for every QSO, connecting operators worldwide to the spirit of the Albufera. 🌅
