World Beauties Award: Magic at Perd’Accuzzai ![]()
WBA Reference: 165DA/TG06 ![]()
The WBA (World Beauties Award) activation at the Giants’ Grave of Perd’Accuzzai in Villa San Pietro was an extraordinary experience, blending the millennial charm of Sardinian archaeology with the technical challenges of top-tier radio operating. ![]()

A Special Thank You
We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Municipal Administration of Villa San Pietro
. Thanks to their cooperation, we were granted the immense privilege of accessing and operating from within the archaeological site. Setting up our station in such a well-preserved, exclusive, and magical context was a true honor that made this activation unforgettable. ![]()

Radio Challenges and Strategy
Every activation presents its own adventurous challenges. Today, the Perd’Accuzzai site put us to the test:
Complex Terrain: The surrounding mountains
partially shielded our reception on headings from 240° to 0° North.
Tough Propagation: We had to battle propagation conditions that were not very favorable toward the European area
.
The Solution: We didn’t give up! We made the most of the openings toward the Southwest, South, and Southeast
, achieving great results despite the natural barriers and atmospheric conditions. ![]()

Log Analysis (WBA 165DA/TG06)
The log data confirms that the team’s determination paid off:
Traffic Volume: Over 120 QSOs recorded during a few hours of intense activity. ![]()
International Openings (DX): Despite the difficulties toward Europe, the South and Southeast headings provided spectacular contacts:
Indonesia: An incredible signal from 91AT109 Agus! ![]()
South America: High turnout from Brazil and Uruguay (e.g., 3AT303 Renato, 12RC1 Danilo). ![]()
Africa: Excellent signals (e.g., 34AT192 Nando, 34VAG379 Victor). ![]()
![]()
North America: Thrilling contacts (11AT121 Carlos, 23SD101 Glen).
Signal Quality: Many 5/7 and 5/9 reports
, proving that the setup performed brilliantly even in a geographically “closed” environment.
Final Thoughts
Beyond the numbers and contacts, what remains is the emotion of visiting and giving a voice to an archaeological site of rare beauty. The Giants’ Grave of Perd’Accuzzai is a place that touches the soul, and operating radio from here was a privilege we will always carry with us. ![]()

The Event: A Bridge Across Eras
Thanks to an exclusive permit, Alex will be operating directly from the field at this extraordinary megalithic monument. This is more than just a radio signal; it is a mission to highlight a unique heritage site:
- Rare Architecture: Unlike the classic “stele” tombs, Perda ’e Accuzzai is a megalithic chamber tomb nearly 8 meters long, built with massive granite blocks and a distinctive river-pebble floor.
- Living History: Dating back to the Late Bronze Age (13th–10th century BC), this site represents the evolution of Nuragic funerary traditions.
- The Interaction: The verticality of the surrounding menhirs will frame our Hexbeam (3 El. Skipper), creating a visual dialogue between the “antennas” of the past and those of the present.
“Under the Sardinian sky, standing among stone giants, beauty is timeless. Stay tuned for this New One!”
The Giant’s Tomb of Perd’e Accuzzai (Villa San Pietro)
The Giant’s Tomb of Perd’e Accuzzai in Villa San Pietro (near Cagliari) is a fascinating megalithic monument that differs slightly from the more famous “stele” versions found in northern Sardinia. It represents a transition in Nuragic funerary architecture.
1. Architecture and Characteristics
Unlike the classic model with a large rounded central stone, this is a megalithic chamber tomb:
The Structure: It measures approximately 7.75 meters in length and 1.25 meters in width, built with large, roughly worked granite blocks.
The Interior: The floor is paved with river pebbles, showing meticulous construction. A unique feature is a small niche located on the left wall just past the entrance.
The Exedra: In this specific site, the exedra (the semicircular ceremonial area at the front) is either missing or was not preserved, giving the structure the appearance of a long stone corridor.
2. Excavations and Findings
The site was scientifically investigated between 1982 and 1983 (notably by archaeologist Maria Rosaria Manunza). Excavations confirmed that the tomb dates back to the Late Bronze Age (approx. 13th–10th century BC).
3. A “Crowded” Territory
Villa San Pietro is exceptionally rich in Nuragic remains. Perd’e Accuzzai is part of a wider archaeological landscape:
Nearby, you can find the Su Lilloni tombs (a group of three) and the Su Cuccumeu tomb.
The site is closely linked to the Nuraghe Mereu, located on the border with Sarroch, suggesting a large, organized community inhabited these hills. https://www.donnanuragica.com/siti-archeologici-sardi/tombe-dei-giganti/perda-e-accuzzai/
