The Capo Sandalo Lighthouse, on the island of San Pietro (Sardinia), is a historic lighthouse (since 1864) and the westernmost point in Italy. It sits on a rocky promontory offering breathtaking views and spectacular sunsets. It can be reached (partially) by an internal spiral staircase, although part of the promontory is a military zone with restricted access.
Main Features
Location: Western tip of the island of San Pietro, near Carloforte, Sardinia.
Structure: Cylindrical stone tower about 30 meters high, built on a two-story building that once housed the keepers.
Altitude: The lighthouse is approximately 138 meters above sea level.
Range: Its light reaches approximately 34 nautical miles.
Access: You can climb the 124 steps of the internal spiral staircase to admire the view, but the surrounding area may be subject to military restrictions.
