The “Alberto Carta” Casale Ponds Oasis is located in the municipality of Vicenza near Casale and covers approximately 24 hectares. Ninety percent of the Oasis falls within the Special Area of Conservation and Special Protection Zone (SAC/SPA – IT3220005) “Former Casale Quarries – Vicenza”.
The typical habitat, created by the abandonment of clay mining activities, is a lowland wetland with reed beds, marshes, and humid, hygrophilous woodlands.
The “Casale Ponds Oasis” is dedicated to Alberto Carta (1962-1992), a young physicist from Vicenza and a member of the Italian Alpine Club (CAI), who contributed extensively and diligently to the design and construction of the Oasis. https://www.wwf-vicenza-padova.it/oasi-stagni-di-casale/
