In the archaeological area, approximately 700 meters above sea level, overlooking the Cixerri and Campidano valleys, in an extraordinarily panoramic position, lies a large area with at least three sacred wells, a Nuragic village, and a Punic temple.
From here, the view extends to the Gulf of Cagliari, the island of San Pietro, and all the way to the Gennargentu mountains. The best-preserved well is approximately 11 meters deep and features a large semicircular courtyard with a paved counter, interpreted as an area for offerings, where at least 20 limestone offering tables were found.
In the area of the three well temples, fragments of bronzes, ceramics, and stone models of nuraghe were recovered. Among these objects is a small bronze figure with an oriental face (known as a “Barbetta”) carrying an offering bowl and a flatbread.
The Punic Temple of Genn ‘e Cantoni likely dates back to the third century BC and is built with blocks of calcarenite. It is located in a striking panoramic position overlooking much of southwest Sardinia.
The archaeological site can be reached from Vallermosa, via a road connecting it to the town, or from Villacidro, via a road accessible upon request to the Sardinian Forestry Authority.
