In the center of the lake, on a small island, stands the church of San Sebastiano, which is reflected in the water, creating a suggestive panorama with plays of light and color. The basin takes its name from the place of worship: you can reach it by swimming or by canoe to discover how much truth there is in the ancient legends that concern it.The lake of San Sebastiano, in the territory of Isili, is formed by the dam of Is Barrocus, which blocks the river Mannu. In its waters, on the banks and in the surrounding areas you can practice sport fishing, canoeing, climbing and excursions. Along the way there is the route of the Trenino Verde, which runs along the lake and continues to Sorgono. The old railway line, which led to the Medio Campidano, now in disuse, is perfect for trekking and mountain biking. San Sebastiano is also fed by the Rio Corrigas: on its banks stand imposing cliffs, formed about 23 million years ago, when much of Sardinia was still under water. Climbing enthusiasts come here from all over Europe and scale sheer walls that have over three hundred bolted ‘routes’ with varying degrees of difficulty. Even professional free climbers of international level choose the limestone rocks of the area of is Barroccus, frequented all year round, in particular those of su Pizzu ‘e Nedda, which rise in a narrow gorge and form suggestive canyons.The territory of Isili is made up of gentle cultivated slopes and flat and fertile countryside. Here you can follow nature trails on foot, on horseback or by bike and you will find countless prehistoric traces: menhirs, megalithic tombs, domus de Janas and 48 nuraghes, among which Is Paras, Atzinnara and Nuraxi Longu stand out. There are also the remains of Punic and Roman settlements, in particular two arches of a bridge over the Brabaciera stream dating back to the 2nd-3rd century AD. Don’t miss the historic centre of the town with churches of high artistic value and the museum of Copper and Textile Art, unique in Sardinia.
