We meet Pierpaolo, a very correct and friendly radio operator. I personally met Pierpaolo in 2024 when I carried out some activations in his area of residence. It was a pleasant surprise to meet an operator and such a good person with a strong passion for radio. We immediately understood each other on how we experience the passion for radio, so much so that we often compare notes, and consequently, a strong passion for SIBA was also born in him. You might think it’s easy for Pierpaolo to connect with Alex‘s activations and others from 1 division… Nothing could be further from the truth! He lives in Lanusei, a town located along the eastern coast of Sardinia, which to the west is surrounded by imposing mountains, including the Gennargentu massif. These mountains prevent any direct connections to the west, where Alex usually activates. As a result, almost all QSOs have occurred via backscatter! Well done Pierpaolo for your perseverance! until now often present almost an every on air appointment with SBA!

My Radio Adventure: A Journey Through Waves and Passions.
It all began in 1981, at the age of 17. A simple gift, two toy walkie-talkies, ignited the spark. Hours spent on the rooftop, listening to that magical static, hoping to intercept a voice.Years of waiting and sacrifices led to my first real rig: a Midland Alan 48. I obtained my CB license and built my first antenna, a half-wave dipole. It was then that the first propagations brought indescribable emotions, my first DX contacts in AM! Then I met a local ham who opened the doors to higher frequencies, a world unexplored by me at that point. I studied with passion, preparing for the ministerial exam… but an unexpected disappointment extinguished that enthusiasm. I didn’t give up entirely. I bought a President Jackson, discovering SSB on the 27 MHz band and making other DX contacts. But life sometimes takes us on different paths, and for a while, I abandoned everything. Then, in 2023, an unexpected discovery: the old Jackson, forgotten in the cellar. To my surprise, the antenna on the roof, untouched for thirty years, showed an incredible SWR of 1.1! I went back on the air, the first QSOs were with central Italy, almost direct signals. A special day, January 14, 2024, a powerful signal caught my attention: it was the IMA activation of the Alfa Tango group, 165AT165 Alessandro. A unique emotion! A few months later, on April 23, 2024, another IMA activation, very close to me. I had the pleasure of meeting Alessandro and his wife, exquisite people who accompany him on every radio adventure. An exceptional operator!Alessandro then embarked on a new project with the Delta Alfa group, SBA, a wonderful initiative to showcase the beauties of Sardinia. Well done, Alessandro! Now, in 2025, he continues with SIBA Sardegna e Italia. As long as my small station and your patience, Alessandro, allow me to listen to you, even at the limit of the signal… Thank you from the bottom of my heart! And long live SIBA!
