We meet Ger, a very correct and friendly radio operator. Ger’s tenacity is truly admirable. Often, his backscatter signals are so weak that closing a two-way QSO becomes a real challenge. Yet, he never gives up, tirelessly listening until the opportune moment to be called arrives! Ger transmits from the city of Melick, very close to 13 an 16 division borders. Here is his self presentation:

I want to give many compliments to the whole team; they have a lot of work activating the new SBA and SIBA. I really enjoy logging, even though it’s not always easy from my location. Participating brings me a lot of fun. My passion for this hobby began around 1979 or 1980. My motto is to achieve the impossible in terms of distance with minimal resources. I still have my first QSL cards from my initial contacts. They were with Italy, Austria, and England. My collection currently contains about 5,000 QSL cards. My former call signs were 19SD285, 19IR285, 19LR285, 19AC285, and 19OP195. Most of you know me as 19LR001. I’m known for the IWI activations in 2015/2016 from: 19LB015, 19LB01, 19LB019, 19LB020, 19LB003, 19LB001, 19LB016, and 19LB021. This hobby has brought me a lot of joy, and I’ve made many radio friends. Unfortunately, some of them are no longer with us. The cooperation here is perfect. If anything is happening, everyone is texting. 13SD208 Wolf, 19LR155 Jack, and 19LR178 Ron, thank you for the cooperation. I was also active on the 3-meter band from 1980 to 1983. However, I prefer working on the 11-meter band. Unfortunately, I had to stop my working career in 2020. I was working in a prison and a TBS clinic. I suffered a cerebral infarction, and while recovering, I contracted COVID in 2021. But 001 never gives up!I still have my limitations, but my hobby provides me with distraction and a lot of enjoyment. My location is Roerdalen, where I live with my wife Monica and my son Justin. My DXCC score is currently 293, and I have many islands and IWI islands confirmed with QSL cards. I hope to hear or speak to all of you. My best regards, 19LR001 GerOnce again, many thanks to the SIBA and SBA teams for the nice activations!
Thank you Ger for your beautiful words, we greet you cordially and look forward to seeing you in the next SIBA activations, always when we could hear your low voice calling “zero zero One“. We also thank you for all the funny memes you dedicate to us and publish on the SIBA News chat! šš§
