The artificial reservoir of Monte Pranu is the only artificial basin of a reasonable size entirely built in the province of Carbonia Iglesias, which was built between 1948 and 1951. The lake of Monte Pranu extends to lap the territories of the municipalities of Tratalias, Giba and Villaperuccio, receives the contributions of the Rio Mannu, the Rio Mannu di Santadi and the Rio Gutturu de Ponti.The large supply of water, initially made available for agriculture and livestock farming and later also for the nearby industrial center of Portovesme, if on the one hand favored a real agricultural recovery, on the other hand caused significant damage over time to the inhabited centers located in its vicinity: The construction of the dam determined, in fact, the phenomenon of underground water infiltrations that in the space of a few years caused irreversible damage to the foundations of the houses, to the point of making most of them totally uninhabitable, making it necessary to rebuild the town. The surrounding landscape, characterized by the plain and small rocky reliefs is enchanting. It hosts a vast rich and varied fauna with particular attention to the various species of fish present in the lake, including carp, perch, pike and catfish that give enthusiasts the opportunity to practice fishing. At the foot of Mount Pranu there is also a welcoming and large pine forest with areas equipped for picnics with various cycling and trekking paths, where it is possible to carry out sports activities. Furthermore, in the past rowing competitions have been organized in the lake, an activity that is intended to restart in the near future. An excellent meeting point for nature lovers.
