Dear friends, let’s continue our journey among the most assiduous SIBA hunters. It’s time for Paul 26AT016, a very well-known and present dx-er on 11 meters, who over the years has distinguished himself by obtaining significant positions in the contest and Award rankings. He is also an excellent portable activator, we listened to him and connected him willingly in his AT LOTA activations. Paul is always a very correct and friendly radio operator, until now often present almost an every on air appointment with SIBA! Here is his self presentation:
Hi allFirst of all i would like to thank Alex and the Delta Alfa club for this opportunity to introduce myself. I am 26AT016 Paul from the North West coast of England. I live in a small seaside resort and have a fantastic DX location close to the sea on one side and open across fields and a flood plain to the other side. I am also blessed with a minimum noise level due to not many neighbours. I have been using radio on 11mtrs since 1977 and been a member of the Alfa Tango Group continuously for 46 years since 1979. I am still as active now as i was back in the early days and seen some amazing peaks and troughs of propagation. My main radio through the years has been a trusty old Kenwood TS870 which unfortunately stopped working a few years ago but because i loved the sound of the old radios so much i replaced it with another TS870. My main antenna is a 4 element yagi which i have on a 12mtr telescopic mast. Apart from my base station i enjoy the challenge of operating mobile and can regularly be found down on the beach near the sea with a vertical or on one of our local Hills around 300mtrs ASL. During 2024 you probably heard me activating some of our local Lighthouses and also a few years before activating the counties of England from my mobile. I really enjoy the challenge of contesting and events. I have taken part in the CQ11WW contest since it started and been the first placed UK station each year which i am very proud off. Another event i enjoy is the Alfa Tango IMA event where i first made my friendship with Alex 165DA101. I have been a avid chaser of the new Sardinian Beauties award since it started as well. The only activations i have missed have been when i have been in Hospital. It has been a real challenge swinging my antenna from direct to backscatter. To chase the SIBA you need to show a degree of commitment and be willing to plan your days around activations. On the activity days i make sure i don’t make any plans till later in the day. I hope the SIBA continues to go from strength to strength and more stations get involved. Thank again. Paul 26AT016
Thank you Paul for your beautiful words, we greet you cordially and look forward to seeing you in the next SIBA activations, always as one of the firsts in the log!
SIBA TEAM.
