The Cuccurada nuraghe of Mogoro is a “polylobate, with four corner towers connected by straight walls that enclose a courtyard where the central tower, called the keep, is also located, and can be dated to the first Nuragic period (around 1600 BC). But as was discovered during the latest excavations, the origin of the settlement is probably to be placed in the pre-Nuragic age, by populations that can be classified in the so-called Monte Claro Culture (end of the 3rd millennium BC-beginning of the 2nd), as demonstrated by the obsidian stone findings, the particular ceramics, and the construction of the oldest part of the nuraghe, which is made with large, roughly hewn boulders, arranged in discontinuous and irregular rows, in a technique not attributable to the Nuragic people. Of the five large towers that compose it, the one located to the south-east is certainly a so-called proto-nuraghe, in fact the wall is apparently straight and not tapered towards the top, and ended with a covering of horizontal stone slabs. Also in the oldest part there is a large staircase, which probably belonged to a pre-Nuragic place of worship, and a very ancient wall from the same period. Among the many finds belonging to a period of time that goes from over 2000 BC to the early Christian period, there are some Punic and Roman coins, bone pins, hundreds of goat heads, Christian lamps and lamps with Jewish symbols. The excavations still in progress will be able to shed light on the many mysteries of this prehistoric monument”.
