The church of S. Vitalia, dedicated to the martyr venerated in various centers of Campidano, was rebuilt, thanks to donations from the population, at the end of the nineteenth century, not far from the place where a previous church once stood, which was closed due to its precarious conditions in 1888.
The land on which the ancient church stood belonged to private individuals, who were very happy to be able to use that land again after the collapse of the religious building. It was therefore decided to build a new building, thanks also to the offer of new land by a wealthy person whose name is unknown. This bequest was made without any constraints, in order to avoid the difficulties encountered with the first construction.
The construction of the new church began in 1894 and probably ended in 1895, as evidenced by the inventory compiled by the bishop in 1902. For the construction of the building, materials from the old church, now destroyed, and from the ancient church of Santa Sofia were used, such as two pieces of column placed in the wall and under the tabernacle and the architrave, currently used as the main altar. The building was the subject of intense restoration work in the 1980s, during which a squared stone was brought to light, located outside at the bottom left, on which there are some writings whose meaning is unfortunately unknown.
The church of Santa Vitalia, located on the outskirts of the town, is the site of the most important festival in Villasor, which is held annually on the second Monday of October, and during which many believers, even non-locals, gather to honor the Saint. In the past, an important fair was held on the occasion of the festival, in which producers and traders from all over the area participated in the purchase and sale of livestock.
