The Tower of San Giovanni stands in the village of the same name, a hamlet of Posada.
Built in sandstone, limestone and pink granite, it blends perfectly with the surrounding environment. It has the shape of a cylinder with a truncated cone base and is 11.5 meters high. It is on two levels, the entrance is placed halfway up (4 meters) and leads to a domed room. From here a trap door leads to a terrace, in whose parapet there are still gun ports. Two or three lightly armed men could stay inside whose task was to alert the nearby tower of Santa Lucia and the inhabitants of the village in case of danger. Until 1986, a drain was visible on the terrace from which it was possible to pour boiling oil and pitch on the enemy. Near the tower there was a church known as Ecclesia Sancti Johannis de Portunono, probably a toponym that recalled the nearby port of Caletta.
To admire the tower you have to go along the La Caletta di Siniscola area, walk along the seafront. After crossing the tourist port, entering the territory of Posada you can see the profile of the tower. It is not possible to visit the interior.
