The whole mountain, which is an hill 501 m tall, is since longtime a ZSC (Special Conservation Zone). More recentely, it become a SIC (Site of Community Interest, with 645 protected hectares). On the top of the hill there is a chapel dedicated to Saint Mauro. The church has been built by people of Gesico in Monte Corona, the original name of the Hill, in 1627, after a bishop’s permission. The first celebration took place on 1st June 1629, and many people came from nearby villages. The church has tipical 17th century features and it has got a small central bell gable and a well was built for animals. Over centuries, the building needed several restoration. In 1857, thanks to a begging, walls were raised and the loggia rebuilt. In 1950s, reforestation was carried out on the hill and, during work, many archaeological finds were found, consisting on obsidian tools.
