In second place in the ranking of the density of nuraghes per square kilometre, we find Aidomaggiore, with 1.55 nuraghes per square kilometre! The most representative nuraghe is certainly the prodigious Sa Jua nuraghe, which in 2020 was affected by further excavation works.
The monument, technically defined as a single tower with a frontal addition, stands tall as the guardian of the small town of Guilcier, with a maximum height of the main tower of approximately 11 metres.
Built in basalt, in the main chamber it houses three niches with ogival and trapezoidal sections arranged in a cruciform pattern and approximately m deep. 1.60. In the corridor behind the architraved entrance (with relative exhaust opening) there is, on the right, a niche and in front of it, on the left, a staircase which, with a helical course inside the wall mass, leads via about twenty steps to the upper floor. The excavations carried out in 2020, coordinated by the archaeologist Silvia Vidili under the supervision of the Superintendence for the Metropolitan City of Cagliari and the provinces of Oristano and Southern Sardinia, focused on the courtyard that connects the main tower of the tancato nuraghe with the secondary body. Those who have visited the nuraghe in recent years and will revisit it now will find a difference in the large entrance step, as well as the more visible added body. Sa Jua is also known among enthusiasts for the light phenomena during the solstices.
